GoGreen at Movies@Marymoor August 7 

Come out for GoGreen Night during King County Parks’ Movies@Marymoor on Wednesday, August 7, for the screening of Incredibles 2. Multiple programs and services will host informational booths to help people learn about King County’s great programs and services for a chance to win a pair of Marymoor Park Concert tickets.

Cine en el Parque August 10 

Join us at Cine en el Parque on Saturday, August 10 for the screening of Spider-Man: Un Nuevo Universo. “Cine en el Parque” is a free outdoor movie at Dick Thurnau Park in White Center. Movies are projected onto a 40-foot-tall inflatable movie screen (bigger than most indoor theatres) that turns the Park into a spectacular outdoor cinema under the stars. The movie is free, so grab a blanket, a lawn chair, family, friends, neighbors or co-workers, and head to our fourth-annual “Cine en el Parque.” There will be games, music, prizes, snack booths and much more.

Make your commute easier with a reserved parking spot at Metro’s busiest park-and-rides 

Crossposted from Metro Matters  King County Metro will begin charging $20-$90 a month to reserve a parking space at some of the busiest park-and-ride lots and garages, providing more parking options to transit riders who can’t arrive early enough to find a spot.  Monthly permits are scheduled to go on sale this fall for the Aurora Village Transit Center and park-and-rides at Bear Creek, Bothell, Issaquah Highlands, Kenmore, Redmond, South Kirkland, Tukwila, and Shoreline. These lots are regularly 90% or more full early in the morning on weekdays.  Read more from Metro Matters

This gorgeous girl has a “Rambunctious Red” personality, meaning she is a spirited cat with a fun-loving personality. Rosie is such a sweet girl and just loves hanging out with her human friends. Brater named ‘County Engineer of the Year’ 

Crossposted from King County Local Road Services Division Director Rick Brater has been named the Washington State County Road Administration Board’s “County Engineer of the Year.” He received the award at the Board’s Summer Conference in June. Nominated by King County Councilmember Kathy Lambert, Brater was recognized as a strong manager and leader who is responsible for a regional transportation system of 1,500 miles of roads and 182 bridges, and a staff of 400 people, including six maintenance divisions. Happy VANniversary! Metro celebrates 40 years of commuter vans 

Crossposted from Metro Matters   What started as a small King County Metro fleet of 21 vans and 189 riders in 1979 is now the nation’s largest public fleet of vanpools. Today there are over 1,600 vans that carry 11,000 riders and drivers each day.  Public commuter van riders, on average, take six single-occupancy vehicles off the road each weekday, which annually reduces 48 million vehicle miles, saves more than 2 million gallons of fuel and prevents 50 million pounds of greenhouse gas from entering our atmosphere—that’s 22 million metric tons.  Learn more about… Read More

August Primary Election Day is Tuesday, Aug. 6 

Last week, King County Elections (KCE) mailed out ballots to its 1.3 million voters. If you have not received your ballot, please call 206-296-VOTE (8683). There is a long list of important races on the Primary ballot this year – 56 races and 218 candidates to be exact. Drop your ballot in a drop box by 8 p.m. on Tuesday, August 6; drop it in the mail (NOT interoffice mail!) to be postmarked by Aug. 6; or visit a Vote Center.

Executive visits Dick Thurnau Memorial Park as part of Parks tour 

King County Executive Dow Constantine recently visited Dick Thurnau Memorial Park in White Center as part of his 100 miles in 100 days through King County Parks where he met with employees and checked out a new playground.  “Parks Specialist Christian Loko took me to the new playground our staff installed with funds generated by the King County Parks Levy,” Executive Constantine said. “We ended at the White Center Bicycle Playground, which provides kids a safe place to learn how to ride bicycle. Family Treatment Court helping King County families  

King County is protecting the health, safety and welfare of children in the dependency system and helping parents reunite with their children through its Family Treatment Court.
