Take part in the Week Without Driving challenge, Oct. 1–8

Metro and King County’s Department of Natural Resources and Parks invite you to join Week Without Driving, Oct. 1–8. This national challenge encourages participants to explore what everyday travel looks like without driving, and better understand the experiences of people who cannot drive or cannot afford to.

Try it for the full week, a day, a weekend, or just a few trips you would usually make by car. Invite a friend, colleague, or neighbor to join you.

How to participate:

  • Try different ways to travel. Walk, roll, bike, or take transit. Use your employee ORCA card for fare-free travel on participating transit services.
  • Consider what it means to depend on others. You can ask someone for a ride or use taxis, rideshare, or paratransit if available to you. Reflect on the cost, planning, and availability if these were your everyday options.
  • Learn from the challenges. If you need to drive, that’s not a failure. Consider what made driving necessary and what that trip might look like for someone without that choice.

Already get around without driving? Your everyday experiences are an important part of this conversation, too. Share what you learn! Email your photos and reflections to MetroEmployees@kingcounty.gov or post on social media with #WeekWithoutDriving.

Each trip offers a chance to better understand the communities Metro serves and what makes transportation accessible and reliable. Learn more at weekwithoutdriving.org.
