Celebrating Administrative Professionals Recognition Day
King County Executive Dow Constantine and the King County Council both proclaimed today, Wednesday, April 24, 2019, as Administrative Professionals Day in King County. Administrative Professionals Day is observed annually on the fourth Wednesday in April to recognize the many contributions of administrative professional employees. “I encourage all residents to join me in thanking administrative professional employees for their work and in expressing gratitude for their many contributions to our government,” Executive Constantine said in his Proclamation. Launched in 2017, the Trailhead Direct program was recently highlighted on the REI store blog, with one writer sharing how the program encourages residents to both drive less and explore the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest. The Center for Accountability and Performance, affiliated with the American Society for Public Administration, awarded King County the CAP Organizational Leadership Award for 2019. Office of Emergency Management featured in Seattle Weekly
Sophia Lopez, King County Office of Emergency Management (OEM) public education coordinator, was featured in a December 19 Seattle Weekly article about how King County is preparing for a major earthquake such as a magnitude 9.0 Cascadia Subduction Zone quake. Seattle Weekly contacted OEM in response to December’s earthquake in Alaska, and a report that questioned the Puget Sound region’s preparedness for such a disaster. Read the article here.

Fleet Administration Division celebrated with Performance Excellence Award for Cost
On Dec. 12, Chief Operating Officer Casey Sixkiller and Budget Director Dwight Dively visited employees at Fleet Administration Division in Renton to formally present the Executive’s Performance Excellence Award for Cost. Fleet field service mechanics saved 124 hours just in travel time, or $12,300 in savings, in the first six months by adding diagnostic software to field service computers. Field service mechanics are assigned to various areas of the county including Black Diamond, Fall City, and Redmond to support field crews.
