Kudos! Management team volunteers time to United Way Day of Caring

Shared from the DCHS Touching Base Newsletter Members of the Department of Community and Human Services’ management team participated in the annual United Way Day of Caring on Friday, Sept. 23. The staff met at 8:30 a.m. at the Children’s Therapy Center (CTC) in Kent, WA and spent the day improving the CTC campus.  Some of the team spent the day cleaning and sanitizing the children’s toys and playrooms and other interior spaces. Kudos to KCSO’s dedicated unit in the fight against domestic violence in King County

The Seattle Times profiled the King County Sheriff’s Office Domestic Violence Investigations Unit in Saturday’s edition, highlighting the reformation of the unit and the hard work being done to protect victims of domestic violence and convict DV offenders. Kudos! RainWise Program Reaches 1,000 Installations

In July, the RainWise program achieved a milestone: 1,000 rain garden or cistern installations on private property. The program offers rebates to install rain gardens and cisterns on private property in Seattle neighborhoods where King County and Seattle are working to prevent combined sewer overflows (CSO). Almost half of the 1,000 installations are located in King County CSO basins. Kudos! King County creates alternative to EpiPen

With the recent spike in cost of the EpiPen, KUOW did a news story on King County’s alternative, developed and used by King County Emergency Medical Services. This version costs roughly $20 and was created to address a change in how EpiPens are administered to patients. KUOW spoke with Jim Duren of King County Emergency Medical Services to gain more insight into this life-saving solution and is another example of how King County is striving to become the best-run government in the country. Marie Trigona with King County Natural Resources and Parks thanks all the King County staff and community partners who took part in Cine en el Parque and ensured it was a fun, successful community event. For context, many state Department of Social and Health Services (DSHS) offices include an office staffed by public health nurses, who are based in nearby public health centers and deliver Maternity Support Services (MSS) and limited family planning services.
