Executive visits employees helping to keep County agencies open and staffed
Our Facilities Management Division (FMD) employees have been working hard to remove snow and ice from about 40 buildings, ensuring access is safe for community members and staff. These employees have been working eight days straight with 4 a.m. start times to clear paths around our facilities. Their work has kept buildings safe, and dealt with blown tires and rough roads during poor conditions. They have worked collaboratively with leadership and other agencies while staying overnight, away from their families. DHR manager named a 2018 Emerging Training Leader by national magazine
Debra Baker, Acting Employee Development and Training Manager with the Department of Human Resources (DHR), has been selected by Training magazine as one of the winners of its Emerging Training Leaders of 2018. The International Association of Assessing Officers, (IAAO) the leading professional trade association offering education, technical standards, and consulting services to property appraisers, has conferred the professional appraisal designation of Residential Evaluation Specialist upon Mike Mills, residential appraiser within the King County Department of Assessments. The designation recognizes attainment of the highest level of experience, competency, and professionalism in the appraisal professional, and is awarded after a rigorous application process. King County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office employee featured for work promoting disability rights
Lori Bridgewater, a paralegal in the Homicide and Violent Crimes unit within the Prosecuting Attorney’s Office, was recently highlighted by KIRO 7 News. A long-time employee, Lori recently suffered a stroke and now uses a wheelchair. Lori has received services from King County Disability Services, and has been supported through the accommodation and return to work process. As he dons a robe, Judge Naylor reflects on his years in public defense
Marcus Naylor began a new chapter in his legal career earlier this month, when he was sworn in as a judge for the county’s Northeast District Court in Redmond. Transportation employee honored at state awards ceremony
Road Maintenance Manager Jeremy Ferguson was recently honored by the American Public Works Association (APWA) Washington State Chapter for his achievements in the public works profession. The Night of Excellence conference recognizes individuals for personal and team accomplishments. First, Jeremy received the June Rosentreter Spence Award, which recognizes efforts to recruit individuals into the public works field, especially those historically underrepresented such as women, minorities, and people with disabilities. Deputy Prosecutor gives TEDxSeattle talk
King County Deputy Prosecuting Attorney Sam Dinning was recently featured In this TEDxSeattle talk, discussing the difference between equality and equity in criminal justice reform. Sam works within the Juvenile Division and explores how to prosecute cases considering equity instead of equality. “Criminal justice reform depends on our willingness to reexamine fundamental principles. Pursuing equity, rather than equality, would produce more just and more effective outcomes.”
